Back in business...

Do you remember learning about Maslow's hierarchy of needs for a human? Well, it turns out that there is a hierarchy of needs for a home too! When the sewer stops working - you fix it or you move out. It doesn't matter what the economy is doing right now, if it's Christmas, if you can afford it, or if you are in the mood - you just get it fixed.
Blessedly - we have completed the "little" project of replacing our sewer lateral! Here are some pictures - they only had to dig at the house and out in the street. Also pictured are the offending trees whose roots caused this whole mess. I'd like to meet the individual who sometime around 1964 placed a silver maple sapling directly over the clay sewer line and thought "this will look good here..."
Anyway, it is over now and we are thankful to all who were so supportive and helpful.

Christmas with Mylee

Mylee was so helpful this year while decorating the house for Christmas! In fact she had the tree all done by the time Mike and I were able to even get the tree decorations out of the box. She gathered everything she find that would stay "in" the tree when she put it there. She was so proud, and so were we!

She loves Christmas music - especially the "Melakalekemaka" (no idea how to spell that) song. You'd smile the whole day just to hear her try to say it once!

She's begging me to let her help me make Christmas cookies because of a little book she has - I'm sure we'll take pictures of what is sure to be an adventure, and you'll get to see it.

She keeps looking at the tree and saying "we need to get some presents for me!" In fact, whenever we go to a store she'll say the same thing. (Yes, we have some for her - but she could never resist unwrapping them early - so she has to wait to see them).

This may just turn out to be the best Christmas yet!

PA RUM PA PA PUM

Well, I'm proud as punch because my awesome husband won this Ludwig drum kit last week in a drum solo contest! It was in Logan. There were about 15 drummers, and the judges voted unanimously on Mike as the winner.
Mylee adores drumming almost as much as she adores her dad...The kit is for sale on KSL.com if you know anyone who needs a drum set (It lists for $1500 and we're only asking for $850.) You know you want it...... J/K.
Way to go Mike - - YOU ROCK!

Our Princess

We had a great Halloween! Mylee LOVED every minute of it. She was walking around singing "we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy Halloween."

Unfortunately the Incredible Hulk was walking by when I was trying to take her picture, but you get the idea of how cute she was. She stayed in her heels and earrings all night!

We're havin' a baby!

I am so excited to announce that we are pregnant! We are thrilled to say the least! I'm 12 weeks along and the doctor says that "all is well." (We lost the other baby at 9 weeks, so we're VERY happy at this point.) I'm due on May 13th - just 4 days before Mylee turns three. I haven't been as sick as I was with Mylee so that is a blessing for sure.

The baby is sucking his thumb in the ultrasound, I hope you can see it ok. And, yep, I said his. My doctor said she really thinks it is a boy. We'll take that with a grain of salt for now - but it fun to have an educated guess. Thanks to all for your love and support through everything. Happy Day!!!!

The Pumpkin Patch

Last Saturday Mike's parents took us out to the pumpkin patch to get our Halloween pumpkins. We went on an official tractor hay ride and Mylee loved the whole thing!

Candy, Candy, Candy!!!!

Last Saturday I won a Milky Way candy bar (YUM! ) at a baby shower. I've looked at it everyday since and thought "Oh my gosh, I cannot eat that whole thing - it is way too bad for me." And I haven't, it is still sitting there. That fact only makes me laugh because.....

.
If you count the wrappers of the little Halloween chocolate candy bars I've eaten since Saturday you would not applaud my self control. I can't bring myself to eat one normal size candy bar - but I will eat 5-6 (or more) small ones in a day without blinking! You've got to love the Halloween mindset, that will soon be followed by the Thanksgiving mindset and the Christmas mindset.

.
I think that the real story is that I know deep down that if I eat that Milky Way today I will still eat a handful of the little candy bars too. Or maybe the real story is that I've given up COMPLETELY on ever being a size 8 again! I think I'm going to go find some candy. I really like it:)

At Last!

My cute little sister got home from her mission in the Dominican Republic earlier this month. It has has been so fun to have her home!!! The family is complete again. I'm now accepting applications for my future brother-in-law, so if any of you have someone terrific to set her up with let me know! He'd be the luckiest guy in the world to get her. Seriously.

Congrats Mike!

Mike entered the Guitar Center drum off and won second place last night! This means he'll compete in the statewide competition on October 14th. Each player does a three minute drum solo on the same kit (it's a lot harder to play on a strange kit.) Anyway I'm so proud of him for putting himself out there like this, and for being so good at his art!

"Front Seat, No Battle!"

Today I was randomly thinking about some of the things that are different now than they were when I was growing up. My sisters and I used to always race to be the one to get to ride in the front seat of the car with my mom. For some reason you could be the first one to say the words "front seat, no battle" and you had sealed the deal - unless someone was already sitting there and didn't hear you say it.

Now days you have to be practically all grown up to sit in the front seat. So now mom's drive around with every seat filled except for the one next to them. Maybe there is less fighting now (unless it is about what movie you watch), but I bet it takes longer to get the kids in the car because they aren't racing to get to the front seat.

Oktoberfest

We finally made it up to Snowbird for Oktoberfest on Saturday. (This is Mike and Mylee)Mylee and Grandma Lomax inside the tent. The German food was awesome as always, and the German Chocolate Cake was absolutely to die for!

The Leaves were pretty, but we were about a week early to see the prime color. So here is a challenge to you my blogging friends... Someone needs to go this weekend and post some pictures of the leaves....

SLC Farmer's Market

Just for kicks last Saturday we went down to the farmer's market at Pioneer Park. It was huge!
.
There was so much fresh produce, and so many booths of crafts and treats and kettlecorn etc. Not to mention the various people playing music around the area.
.
Many people were walking around eating a whole peach, with the juices running everywhere. It made me glad to be a Utahn - cause lets face it, our peaches do rock!

A fresh start

This morning at breakfast ...
.
Mylee reached out,
shook my hand, and said
.
"Nice to meet you."
.
It made my day!

Well at last!

I'm very pleased to announce that after a week and a half of the most miserable cold I've ever had - I'm better!

Today I'm going to clean away all of the "sick stuff" from my room. The humidifier will go back in the closet, the vicks vapor rub and cough drops back in the cupboard, and the tissues back to my office. I'll even change the sheets (that smell like vicks vapor rub) because they hold bad memories of endless nights of coughing.

I'm not even sure why I'm blogging this - but I'm happy to have someone to tell.... so thank you for reading.

I wish you health.

Bagoon!

Well - we finally got Mylee to Lagoon - or "Bagoon" as she calls it. Mike and I only made it on one big ride, but we had such a good time with Mylee!

Landon and Chantel (Mike's Brother and his wife) came with us, and made it so much more fun than it would have been otherwise.

I hope all these happy smiles give you an idea of all the fun!

OK blogging friends - someone tell me how to turn pictures the right way.

Landon and Chantel spoiled Mylee and she loved it! Thanks guys!!(Notice the hairdo by the end of the day)

How does your garden grow?

Anyone can grow normal looking veggies, but I prefer to grow strange and unique cucumbers and carrots. It is a very difficult and precise art...

Too Quite?

Have you ever had this dreaded thought cross your mind? "It is too quite. "

I found her covered in diaper cream, and just about died!

Just in case you were wondering... diaper rash cream DOES NOT COME OFF EASILY, for obvious reasons it is not water soluble - but can anyone tell me why it is not soap soluble (if that is even I real term)?

As I type she just ran out of the room
and I don't know what she is doing
and I am filled with dread....

What makes you happy?

The other night Mike asked Mylee, "What makes you happy?"

she said "ice cream."

Then he said "What else makes you happy?"

she said "more ice cream."

What makes me happy you ask? I'll tell you....
  1. Fall is just around the corner
  2. I lost two pounds!
  3. Tender mercies
  4. My garden veggies
  5. Fruit stands with fresh peaches
  6. Rice pudding and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies
  7. Dinner with my sisters

I could go on and on - but more than anything I'm just thrilled to death that I am happy!!!

I hope you are too.

My Cousin the Writer

My cousin (Melissa Carter of SLC) is posting some poems that she's written on her blog, and these two I love so much I just had to share. Tell me what you think....

The Fruits of Marriage

"Come, watch me eat tomatoes
And tell lies."
.
Those are his words, not mine.
.
The first lie was;
That he liked the tomatoes.
.
The second lie was;
When he pretended to be happy with me.
.
I know better.
I know who I am.
.
Hey, the man was hungry. There was
Nothing to eat. Only
Substandard, overripe garden fruits.
.
Still, he did eat those tomatoes, and
He fed me lies.
.
Because he honestly loves me.

Mother's Dream

My mother had a vivid dream,
And in it, she was fishing on a stream.
.
She caught something heavy, and hollered, "Help - Please!"
"This thing! It's bigger than my capabilities!"
.
Her helpmate heard this and he ran to meet her.
Together, they pulled in a Golden Retriever.
.
This dream may sound like an absurdity,
But I knew what it meant, and so did She.

Tinkle Tinkle Little Star

First, you should know that Mylee's version of "twinkle little star", goes "tinkle tinkle little star" (the same way "ring around the rosey" goes like this... "asses asses we all fall down.")

Anyway....

The other day we were getting ready for a bath and I told Mylee that if she tinkled in the potty I'd give here a treat. She didn't want to get on the potty and I didn't think much of it. I only realized that she was standing there singing her version of "twinkle little star" after she finished and said "where treat?"

Yucky Charms

Well, it is definitely Monday! (Heck, I'm already blogging instead of doing work and Mylee is already stationed on my lap at the computer instead of playing... and it is only 8:12 am! Help!)

After Mylee's customary first words of every morning, "where Dad?" and "want Yucky Charms", we started getting breakfast out. Lucky Charms (Mylee can't say her L's) for her and Raisin Bran for me. She started up a fuss because she wanted both cereals, so... I mixed them for her. But, then there wasn't enough Raisin Bran left for me so I got out some Shredded Wheat... and sure enough Mylee begged until I added some to her concoction. I cut up some apricots for my cereal and obviously she needed some too. So, we FINALLY sit down to eat and she tries it and says "I don't yike it, want yucky charms." It's going to be one of those days!

The Photo Shoot

We did some "official" picture taking for Mylee's second birthday, and I'm finally getting around to doing something with them. Laurie took them (you can see more of her photography on her link in my list to the left.)I don't know where she got those eyelashes - but we love em!
These two pictures are examples of how it all went - Mostly over cheesy smiles and looking at bugs etc. Oh well - she had fun!

She looks so quiet and peaceful......good thing we got a picture of it.

That's my girl!

Most of the smiles of the day were due to the bubbles!

THANKS LAR!

A Mom Moment

Last weekend I woke up to Mylee's face. Literally. She came up to me in my sleep and touched her nose to mine and with a great big smile waited for me to come to. It was quite an experience, and it still makes me laugh to think about it. The next day, I came into her room to wake her up and she said "Mommy, cuddle me." So, I climbed in her little bed with her and cuddled with her for a few minutes. She rarely holds still, so it was pretty cool!

The 4th of July in pictures

We had a fantastic 4th!

Oh so cute!

Mylee has started helping us say prayers. It is kind of a "fill in the blank" situation. We say "please bless..." and she says "Daddy" etc. The other day Mike says "we are thankful for..." and she said "your welcome." We both started busting up (reverently of course.) I've decided that I really love having a two year old, she is so cool!

Report

Well, we had our big Parade of Homes kick off dinner - and I forgot the camera. Then, we went to Bear Lake for a family reunion - and we didn't have camera until the last day. Then we went to Mike's concert and yep, you guessed it - I forgot the camera. Bear Lake was a lot of fun, but Mylee had a hard time not running away whenever we turned our backs for a second! The concert went well, and they sounded great. Anyway, Some have asked for a link to Mike's music and here it is.... http://www.myspace.com/thehardheartedband for his current band and http://www.myspace.com/mikelomaxmusic for some older stuff.

Mike's Show

Mike's band is playing this Saturday (June 28th) at the Ogden Art's Festival. This is a new group and they are awesome (Danny, Sam, Jamie, and Mike). They are on at 5:00pm at the Union Station Fountain Plaza Acoustic Stage (West end of 25th Street.) More info available at www.ogdenartsfestival.com. They'll probably play for about 40 minutes, and did I already say that they are awesome?!

Strawberries

Yesterday we went strawberry picking at Day Farms. Mylee had so much fun picking and eating to her heart's content. She kept saying "ymm, this tastes good" over and over. We were a sticky mess after, but it was worth it.

Happy Summer

Happiest Day of the Year

So, I read that June 20th is the happiest day of the year... we'd better enjoy it because it's all down hill from here. My day is pretty average feeling so far, if it is ALL downhill from here I'll be in the pit of despair by November and who knows where by New Year's Eve. Do you know what this make me want to do? Quit working and start eating.

Mylee has a poopy diaper. Lately she runs away from me when she needs her diaper changed (and she's pretty fast.) The bad part is that I don't WANT to change it - so it is hard to stay motivated to catch her (I don't fit well into her fort). I know, I know, I should stop typing and get her (she keeps walking right up to me and then running off when I stop typing).

I did it! I'm glad too, because she is currently sitting on my shoulders (my sunburned shoulders) while I type. This is her favorite seat to watch "Blue's Clue's" from.

May the happiest day be a happy one for you!

Mylee's 2nd Birthday

My daughter is a diva at heart, check out those heals. We had a "bead party" cause beads are her favorite things. (I don't know how to turn the picture right side up)

I'm here at last!

Well, I'm finally doing it - I was inspired by my sisters and my cousins to start this blog. Mostly I want a way to tell (and show) all the people I love how darn cute my little girl is. She makes me laugh every single day! Yesterday she was naming all my face parts while pointing to them. She said "nose, eyes, mouth, zip (zit), ears...."

Later on she started crying because she wanted "nemos" and I had NO IDEA what that was. Finally, after I picked her up so she could show me I realized she wanted the little fishy crackers in the cupoard. I love seeing how her little brain works!

Anyway, I've got to get back to work since Mylee is napping and this is precious time.
